height - ??
weight - 6.18kg (grew by 1.32 grams since week 8)

his weight is only an approximate, since we haven’t really been to a doctor yet. what i did was weighed myself on a scale first, and then weighed myself again while carrying matt. the 6.18kg (or 13.6lbs to be exact) was the difference between the two weigh-ins.

i think he has been feeding well, i haven’t been really giving him much formula since we got here in LA. only during those times when butch and i have gone out or if i’m not particularly feeling full while at home.

we’ve bought a crib for him… he only slept 1.5 hours in it last night, i was too tired to keep trying to settle him. hopefully tonight will be better. right now it’s been about 15 minutes since i last put him in it.. fingers crossed he will get a proper nap! :D

Mar 17

height - 57cm (grew by 2.5 cm since week 6)
weight - 4.86kg (grew by 780 grams since week 6)

matt and i went to the GP today for his 2nd month immunisation. needless to say he wasn’t too happy about getting his shots lol the nurse said that he may run a fever tonight, so i bought some children’s panadol just in case.

i also went to the passport office to get his passport organised. it should be here next week. lucky mum went with us today, otherwise i’d probably be at my wits end again! :D

Mar 4

height - 54.5cm (grew by 1.5 cm since week 4)
weight - 4.08kg (grew by 370 grams since week 4)

matt and i went to the GP yesterday for his 6 weeks’ check-up. apparently his weight gain is in the low range and the doctor suggested supplementing with formula or expressed breast milk. i don’t really like the formula option but i also don’t have time to express cos matt NEVER sleeps during the day. the settling method no longer works and it’s just too tiring to keep re-settling. i think from tomorrow i will just sleep with matt during the day and hope that he doesn’t wake up if i have to go to the loo or something.

i can’t wait for the time when he will just fall asleep by himself and not kick up such a fuss.

Feb 19

height - 53cm (grew by 1.5 cm since week 2)
weight - 3.71kg (grew by 380 grams since week 2)

so we went to the child health clinic today, no luck with getting a referral for qeii lol but that’s ok. i’m actually a bit disappointed with matt’s weight gain, since i feel like i’ve been feeding him non-stop. but i suppose any weight gain is better than nothing. i did some googling and apparently 180 grams a week is the average, although i have no idea how accurate that is.

i’ve booked us for the breastfeeding clinic on thursday and for a sleep group on the 5th of march. matt is still not settling well and he hasn’t been sleeping much at all. the only way he can sleep is if we carry him and rock him to sleep, which is ok for now, but i really want him to be able to fall asleep on his own while on the bassinet.

oh and he’s over 3.5 kg now so that means we can start using the baby bjorn carrier (thanks candy!). hopefully i can get some housework done lol i can’t believe i’m saying this but i actually miss doing housework! :D anything is better than breastfeeding and trying to settle 24/7!

Feb 4

height - 51.5cm (grew by 3.5 cm since he was discharged from the hospital)
weight - 3.33kg (grew by 350 grams since he was discharged from the hospital)

i’m glad to find out that he has actually gained weight, i was worried that he wasn’t feeding properly because of our attachment problems. the nurse showed me another way to aim the nipple to not make it hurt so much, hopefully things will get better. she also told us to let him cry for about a minute just to find out what sort of cry it is, if his crying winds down after a minute or so, then we shouldn’t be picking him up so that he can soothe himself. otherwise it is a “real” cry and we should find out what the cause is, if he’s hungry or needs a nappy change.

someone needs to invent a baby cry translator! that would make life so much easier hehe.
