i’m not entirely sure when my “labour” started, but after the baby shower on saturday (19 january) at around 11.30pm i started getting cramps/contractions, as though i had dysmenorrhea. i wasn’t able to sleep at all that night and i also had my “bloody show”. i rang up the hospital to check whether this was normal, at first i thought i was bleeding but the midwife said that it sounded like it was the bloody show. she said not to go to the hospital and wait it out cos real labour might not come until a couple of days later.
my baby shower was held yesterday and matt got a whole heap of stuff
i’m almost on my 38th week so i can give birth at anytime.
i went to bed at around 11.30pm hoping to sleep early (that’s already early cos i’ve been sleeping at 3am) cos i didn’t get much sleep yesterday. anyway, i started getting contractions… not too painful at first, but noticeable, like cramps when i have my period.
at around 2.30am i got the “bloody show”. basically it’s when the mucous plug that is blocking the cervix becomes unplugged and this means that things are starting to happen. labor can come hours or days later.
anyway it’s already 7am and i still haven’t had any sleep, my contractions are becoming more painful. i rang up the hospital and they said that it’s better to stay at home cos if i go to the hospital too early, i could just be sent home. their advice is to wait until it becomes unbearable and then go to the hospital.
i think from the contractions that i’m having now, it’s painful but bearable, but what’s really bothering me is it’s been 22 hours since i last slept
when i lie down the pain is much more intense so i don’t really have much choice but to sit or move around. i just really want to go to sleep
anyway, watch this space if i give birth anytime soon. poor butch, he’s not arriving from LA until tuesday and by then i might have given birth already. or not, if these contractions are just happening just to annoy me
there are so many prams available out there for all types of budget that it is so daunting to know exactly which one to get! my mum and i have visited about four stores already, looking for the best pram, but i always keep coming back to the steelcraft strider 4 available from the bubs baby shop in fyshwick.
steelcraft strider 4
it’s a bit bulky but out of all the prams i tested this had the smoothest ride. i haven’t tested it for collapsing though, but from what i’ve read it’s pretty straightforward. the steelcraft strider 4 is priced at around $399 but you would have to pay $139 extra to get the bassinet attachment. it’s meant to be used from newborn to toddler but apparently if you are going to use it for newborns it’s better to get the bassinet.
if i had all the money in the world though, i would definitely go for either the bugaboo cameleon or the bertini x series.
i’m back to not being able to sleep properly… it’s so annoying cos i really want to go to sleep but my body is still very much awake. my midwife said that this is nature’s way of preparing mothers for the sleepless nights after birth. i still have about three weeks to go so it would be really nice to have some decent sleep before then
in other news, nicole richie and christina aguilera have both given birth already. i suppose they had planned c-sections? there was a show on tv tonight about how quickly celebrity mums lose their baby weight. some of them who have planned c-sections also go ahead with tummy tucks, so that they get a flat stomach straight away… they call it a “mummy-tuck” lol
